Cavapoos are loyal and adorable. It’s no wonder why so many people want to adopt this breed! However, if you suffer from dog allergies, you may be longingly looking at pictures of Cavapoos believing you can never adopt one. Thankfully, this doesn’t have to be the case.
What does it mean to be hypoallergenic?
The term “hypoallergenic” means that an animal will not trigger your allergies. However, no dog is 100% hypoallergenic. So, when you see “hypoallergenic” applied to dogs, this typically means that they either don’t shed or shed very little compared to most other members of their species. A hypoallergenic dog still has a chance to trigger your allergies, but the chance is much lower than a non-hypoallergenic dog.
So, what about Cavapoos?
If you’re an allergy-sufferer looking to adopt a Cavapoo, then you’re in luck. Cavapoos are considered a hypoallergenic breed. Just remember that they are not 100% hypoallergenic, just like all other dogs. They simply shed much less than other breeds. As such, they are much less likely to trigger your allergies, allowing you to live peacefully with them without having to constantly grab the tissues.
Minimizing dog allergies
Since Cavapoos are not 100% hypoallergenic, you should still take steps to reduce your chances of an allergic reaction. Here are some things you can do to minimize your dog allergies:
- Clean and vacuum your home frequently
- Keep your Cavapoo properly groomed, brushing and bathing them regularly
- Keep your Cavapoo off the furniture, especially the bed or couch
- Have your allergy medicine handy
